Themed "Backbone of a Great Nation, the Spirit of Craftsmanship, Manufacturing Life and Manufacturing with Life," Dr. Hu Xiang led the audience into a brand-new era of life sciences, in which humanity is now reaching into previously unknown areas of itself, such as cells, stem cells, and the regenerative medicine that grows from them. "In the future, treating disease will not depend on chemical drugs but mainly on using one's own cells to treat one's own disease. Cell therapy will become a pillar of the future of medicine.
Manufacturing with life means the spirit of craftsmanship. Many think it's easy to make a batch of cells — humming a tune in the lab and the cells appear. That's not the case. To do so for 100,000 or even 1 million people in a repeatable, problem-free way, you must build a complete quality control system. For every cell sample stored at the Shenzhen Cell Preparation Center, there are more than 580 standard documents, more than 740 quality records, and up to more than 910 quality control checkpoints involving testing or confirmation. We have to build this standard and this system, and drive the industry forward."
