On the afternoon of October 13, 2007, the Graduate School at Shenzhen of Tsinghua University and Shenzhen Beike Biotechnology Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony at the Wuzhou Hotel in Shenzhen for the joint establishment of a stem cell research laboratory.

Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly establish at the Graduate School at Shenzhen of Tsinghua University the "Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University–Shenzhen Beike Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Joint Laboratory for Stem Cell Research." The laboratory is established to undertake basic and applied stem cell research, conduct R&D of stem cells and related genetic engineering products and monoclonal antibodies, train teaching and technical personnel for stem cell research, translate research outcomes related to stem cell technology into practice, and develop the joint laboratory into a stem cell engineering technology center with internationally leading levels in the integration of life science technology product development and application. The establishment of this laboratory will provide Shenzhen with a high-starting-point, high-standard biotech source-of-innovation platform and a biotech industrial translation platform, achieve leapfrog development for Shenzhen in the field of stem cell regenerative medicine, and enhance Shenzhen's scientific and technological innovation capabilities and overall urban competitiveness.

According to reports, the partnership between the Graduate School of Tsinghua University and Beike Biotech to jointly establish a stem cell research laboratory is another successful example of cooperation between universities and enterprises driving research and innovation under a "production-education-research" model, and it is also an important achievement of university-industry cooperation at this year's High-Tech Fair.

After the signing ceremony, the participating scholars and guests also held a small stem cell forum.
