On 28 March 2023, the third change-of-leadership conference and 10th anniversary celebration of the Shenzhen Life Sciences Industry-University-Research-Capital Alliance was successfully held in Shenzhen. The global health industry is in a phase of rapid development, with new technologies and products continually emerging. With the release of China's first five-year plan for the bioeconomy, cell therapy has become an important part of it. As a pilot demonstration zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics, Shenzhen has further listed cells and genes among its key future industries, successively rolling out a series of policy documents – including the "Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation 14th Five-Year Plan", the "20+8" industry support policy and the "Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Cell and Gene Industry Promotion Regulations" – focused on the deep integration of innovation chains, industrial chains, capital chains and talent chains, with the aim of developing this into a strategic emerging industry within 5–10 years.
