The 111th ISO Council meeting recently approved the establishment at ISO of the "International Standardization Young Experts Award" initiated by Zhang Xiaogang, a Chinese standardization expert and former ISO President. This is the first time in ISO's 74-year history that a globally oriented standards award initiated by an individual expert has been authorized. It is not only ISO's strong recognition of Mr. Zhang Xiaogang's tenure as ISO President but also a full recognition of China's capacity and standing in international standardization activities.
The award is intended to encourage and support young experts in international standardization, inspire the enthusiasm and engagement of young leadership talent, drive sustainable development in international standardization, and provide strong human-resource support for the implementation of the ISO Strategy 2030. The award will be presented every two years and will fund the recipient to work for half a year at the ISO Central Secretariat.
Going forward, we will continue to step up the development of international standardization talent, actively promote the placement of Chinese experts within ISO and other international standards organizations, consolidate and enhance China's influence and voice within international standards organizations, and fully harness China's role in supporting the future development of international standardization.
