On 24 June 2016, Director Zeng Bijing of our institute's Standards Information Research and Service Center, together with colleagues, visited Peking University Hospital and met with leaders and experts from the Shenzhen Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission, Peking University, Luohu Hospital Group, the Municipal People's Hospital and Peking University Hospital to jointly discuss solutions for regulating the cellular immunotherapy industry, and reached a preliminary cooperation intention.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Liu Tao of Shenzhen Luohu Hospital Group. At the meeting, Dr. Liu gave a detailed overview of the current state of Shenzhen's cellular immunotherapy industry from upstream, midstream and downstream perspectives, analyzing the deeper reasons behind the industry's disordered market and the abnormal phenomenon of "bad money driving out good", and expressing the necessity and urgency of strengthening industry oversight, regulating industry behavior and using standardization to safeguard the healthy and sustainable development of the industry. His views were warmly endorsed by all attendees.
Around the theme of "how to build a standardization pathway for the cellular immunotherapy industry", the experts present actively put forward ideas and questions from their respective professional perspectives. Director Zeng Bijing of our Standards Information Research and Service Center proposed a strategic development approach of starting from product quality control of the industry and progressively building a standardization system for the cell therapy industry along the entire industrial chain – using individual breakthroughs to drive overall coverage and gradually regulating each key link of the industry. This proposal was unanimously endorsed by the experts present.
This meeting was the first broad contact and exchange between our institute and entities along the cellular immunotherapy industry chain, and was also the first step taken by Shenzhen's cellular immunotherapy industry toward "standardized and normalized development". Our institute will make full use of its technical strengths to engage deeply in the development of the cellular immunotherapy industry and provide strong standardization-based technical support for advancing the industry's standardized and large-scale development.
